London Fashion Week - Basharatyan V Marocchino

Basharatyan V Marocchino
Spring Summer "15

From the sound of a single saxophone playing in the background to a large cream carpet laid out for the runway, the show was about to commence. The collection for designer Basharatyan was set in a distant era as this reflected on the atmosphere of the show. Models stood holding teacups and saucers at the end of the runway whilst other models would continue to walk up and down the catwalk presenting the Marocchino Spring/Summer collection. The colour pallet for this collection was very simple with its deep reds and natural nudes but this became very effective on the runway. The style of the clothing also represented a distant era with the use of double-breasted jackets, nigh neck dresses and below the knee pencil skirts. Overall the Marocchino collection was simple but strongly effective and well executed when presented on the runway.

LFW Hema Kaul SS15

 Hema Kaul SS15

Presenting her SS15 collection ‘La vie en rose – Life is pink’ at Fashion Scout, Hema Kaul returns to LFW with a truly feminine and glamorous collection.

Drawing inspiration from her roots in India and travels to many exotic countries, Kaul uses beautiful fabrics sourced from all over the world to create her sophisticated designs, keeping with her ethos of producing clothing for confident, independent women like herself, who believe in seizing opportunities to achieve success.

The collection showcased stunning outfits, embellished with floral appliqué, intricate detailing and flowery prints. The colour palette was kept neutral with soft creams and whites with hints of pink and also pops of colour in bright aqua and fuchsia tones.

The collection had a youthful and fun feel with short and playful hemlines and cut out detailing whilst also injecting contrast and elegance with evening dresses, full skirts and longer silhouettes. The models supported big hairstyles with a slightly messy look and soft pink lips, which complimented the collection adding to the playful feeling. Kaul used organza with satin and French tulle and lace giving the collection that ultra feminine, understated look and contrasting perfectly with the vibrant accents throughout the collection.

London Fashion Week - Designer Bernard Chandran

Bernard Chandran

Spring Summer '15 Collection

Photography - Natalie Lunken

From neon brights to clashing patterns and animal prints, designer Bernard Chandran displayed a versatile edge to his fashion collection. Chandrans Spring/Summer collection demonstrates freedom and hope through the textiles and colours of the garments. The garments displayed resembled a huge significance to the seasons Spring/Summer as the designer used insect/animal patterns and Greek goddess designs on the collection. This was shown through three sections of the catwalk performance. Not only did the clothing feel like summer, the atmosphere and music did too. The background music was light and upbeat and the format of the show had an overall positive energy, which reflected on the collection perfectly. Overall the collection was fun and spontaneous with the use of bright colours and detailed fabrication.

LONDON FASHION WEEK SHOWROOMS:BEST OF

Once again Somerset house brought light to designers this year by holding an array of showrooms displaying designer’s recent collections ready for the coming seasons. With Jewellery, shoes, hats, clothes and even glasses – each room brought something new.

Jewellery was a big trend throughout London Fashion Week and seems sure to continue through to SS15. Sunglasses and headgear were another hit amongst the showrooms. While Zoe Sherwood stuck to basic tones of black white and pastels for her Alice In Wonderland style headpieces, Termite Eyewear went down the opposite route with bold colours and shapes for their collection of sunglasses

Kult Domini had a pop style theme to their collection of wedged sandals and flats. In simple blacks and bright solid colours shoes were block heeled or held a flatform style giving the collection a late 80s, early 90s theme.
Julia Thomas SS15 collection was everything modern and minimal. Strappy sandals appeared modest with cylinder block and see-through heels giving a futuristic theme. Sandals were strapped with leather with the whole collection kept muted in basic tones with a side of plum and beige shades.

For clothing the choice was endless - from an all black and white collection for summer, to  pastel furs and pure silver angelic looks. One of the best went to Yui Atelier. The  collection was everything a girl wanted, pink, glittery and flirty. An array of materials were  used for the collection with fur’s, silks and even PVC all in different cuts and shades of  blush pink.

Brand Catherine Quin was on the opposite scale to Yui Atelier with her  minimal aesthetic in her elegant palette of black. Each item simple and different from the  other with clean cut silhouettes and luxury fabrics this all black collection stuck out from  the rest. Soojin Lee’s SS15 collection was everything summer was meant to be. Bold colours in the form of miniskirts, floor-length dresses and easy straight fitting trousers. Dresses were pinched at the waist in floral patterns matching maxi dresses. If the pink and pastel palette wasn’t to your taste, Soojin Lee had a darker tone of looks added to her SS15 collection fitting for her mixed audience.

LONDON FASHION WEEK SS15

FASHION SCOUT ONES TO WATCH

This year during London Fashion Week Fashion Scout named Cassandra Verity Green, Min Wu, Keiko Nishiyama and Youjia Jin as its SS15 ‘Ones To Watch.’ Opening the first day of LFW the four designers showed their collections in a back-to-back format.

Cassandra Verity Green is a London based knitwear label starting as a Central Saint Martin’s graduate.  During the presentation of the collection we saw a theme throughout of fun colours, risky materials and sharp shapes. Cassandra Verity Green’s collection takes inspiration from personal experiences, emotions and memories resulting in her fun, innocent yet risky collection.

Keiko Nishiyama, born in Japan, was the second designer amongst the Ones To Watch. Using feminine yet modern cuts and draping the designer’s Japanese background showed through her designers in the form of hand-drawn prints in an array of soft lavish colours. Aladdin-style flat shoes in dusty whites and forest tones completed the outfits as they took down the catwalk.

Chinese designer Min Wu was third in line presenting a colourful and playful collection. Graduating from London College of Fashion only last year, Min Wu has been working endlessly to produce her collection to her best standard for her aimed audience. Throughout the collection there was a sense of 90’s fashion with flatform wedged sandals while the lengths of skirts and dresses were flirty and playful – matching headgear completed each look.

Last we had Youjia Jin, a Chinese born London based fashion designer. Some may say Jin’s collection was a little more minimal compared to the other ‘Ones To Watch’ designers – though Youjia Jin’s SS15 collection specified in detail with hand-drawn prints on fabrics. The collection had a unisex theme with looks border lining between masculine and feminine shapes.
